ABOUT THE EXPERT:

Andrea serves as the Deputy Program Director for Vote Solar in the West, where she advocates for equitable clean renewable energy policies and helps elevate community efforts calling for a rapid and just transition.

Prior to joining Vote Solar, Andrea was the Climate Action Director with Azul, an environmental justice organization working with the Latinx community to protect and conserve our coasts and oceans. She co-led the coalition to stop the private Brookfield Poseidon desalination plant in Southern California which would have eroded Californians’ human right to water. She has always been passionate about fighting for social justice and has been involved with animal rights, juvenile justice, immigrant rights, and of course, environmental groups, for nearly two decades.

In 2016, Andrea co-authored a book called “Fracking: ¿Qué es y cómo evitar que acabe con México?” (“Fracking: What is it and how to ensure it doesn’t destroy Mexico”). The book is the foundation for Mexico’s legal fight against oil corporations. In 2018, she co-authored Sustainable Energy Technologies by CRC Press.

Born and raised in Mexico City, Andrea has lived in Los Angeles for over 25 years. She lives in a solar-powered home with her spouse and Lexie, a squirrel-chasing terrier mix dog.
