ABOUT THE EXPERT:

Conversation catalyst and common-good strategist. With a bachelor’s in agronomy, a masters in landscape architecture and 15 years of experience, Burgos has served a diversity of roles on the road to a more just and sustainable Puerto Rico in the face of displacement and climate change. In 2014, she co-founded La Maraña in order to support grassroots community projects working to activate abandoned spaces and reclaim citizenship participation in the urban realm. Today La Maraña is a community design nonprofit that merges planning, landscape ecology and urbanism, science, graphic and audiovisual in order to support communities in just transition projects while promoting the inclusion of Puerto Rican voices in the creation of our cities and communities

She has collaborated with organizations related to conservation, design, natural resource management, agriculture, biodiversity, among others, always understanding that citizenship participation is the way to ensure successful projects. She has also served as a lecturer and speaker on ecology, landscape urbanism, natural resource management in different forums around the island and abroad. Currently she is a PhD student in environmental management specializing in participatory urban flood management through nature based solutions, and Ilan’s mom.
