Adriana is the current Executive Director of Salted Roots (formerly operating as Brown Girl Surf). Adriana’s work and passion include building a more inclusive surf culture both locally and nationally through community programming, collaboration with ally organizations, and advocacy for equitable and inclusive coastal policies. They center joy as a form of community building and healing.
Adriana lives and plays in the waters located on the ancestral lands of the Ramaytush/Muwekma people (San Francisco) with their partner and their dogs, Nova and Roux. A common thread that weaves Adriana’s professional aspirations and beliefs together is their pursuit of social justice with a youth development lens and a community-based approach.
Over the last decade and a half, Adriana has worked in various capacities in the nonprofit sector across the globe, engaging with communities of diverse socioeconomic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds. For over four years, they have been a dedicated organizer and advocate for ocean justice and coastal access on local, state, and federal levels, from California to the White House.
Adriana holds a B.A. in Psychology from Arizona State University and a Master’s in Nonprofit Administration from the University of San Francisco. In 2023, Adriana was recognized for their impactful contributions and was acknowledged by Sachamama on ‘The 100 Most Influential Latinos’ list, a prestigious accolade supported by various organizations.
