ABOUT THE EXPERT:

David De La Torre (he/him/él) lives in Eugene, Oregon where he has led statewide climate, environmental justice, and health advocacy campaigns as a program director for Oregon Physicians for Social Responsibility. He is the Vice Chair of the Churchill Area Neighborhood Association, where he was elected for a two-year term by his fellow residents. He grew up in South Central Los Angeles and later lived in the Midwest where he earned a master’s degree in history at the University of Iowa. During his time in Iowa, he was elected to serve on the executive board of a local council of the League of United Latin American Citizens, the oldest and largest Latino civil rights organization, where he coordinated services and advanced policies that promoted the wellbeing of Latine communities. He was also a community planner in the private sector, co-leading a flood resilience action plan (FRAP) that received recognition for environmental planning award by the Iowa Chapter of the American Planning Association in 2021. In his current role at Oregon PSR he has worked in coalition to oppose fossil fuel infrastructure, nuclear energy, and support a just transition to clean energy, disaster resilience, and a zero waste.
