ABOUT THE EXPERT:

Dr. Chanese A. Forté is a Scientist in the Global Security Program, specializing in environmental toxicology and epidemiology.

Their research focuses on the health and well-being of communities affected by nuclear weapon mining, exposure, and the threat of exposure.

Dr. Forté has a PhD in Environmental Health Sciences and a second PhD in Scientific Computing from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor. During her studies, she researched farmworker health and exposure to pesticides. Their research at UCS also looks at the possible interactions between radiation, shock waves, heat, environmental chemicals, and other environmental toxicants.

Prior to pursuing her doctorate, they earned a master’s degree in Public Health from the University of Georgia, with a focus on epidemiology and biostatistics. She also worked at the US Navy and Marine Corps as a deployment health epidemiologist researching active service member deployability as it related to behavioral health conditions such as suicidal ideation, post-traumatic stress disorder, and sleep disorders.
