ABOUT THE EXPERT:

Reyna Gilbert is a principal associate at the Pew Charitable Trusts, where she has worked for the past 5 years to advance environmental policy. Reyna currently supports a project to prevent ocean plastics. Her role focuses on partnering with governments and organizations, with an emphasis on the Global South, to develop policies for reducing ocean plastic pollution through data collection and modeling of their plastic systems. Previously, Reyna supported Pew’s project to reduce harmful fisheries subsidies, advocating to World Trade Organization member-countries on the importance of fulfilling their UN Sustainable Development Goal mandate to end the payments that lead to overfishing.

Before joining Pew, Reyna was a program associate at environmental non-profit organization Rare, where she worked to advance sustainable, small-scale fishery reform. Gilbert holds a bachelor’s degree in Africana Studies from Wellesley College and currently resides in the Washington, DC area.
