Green 2.0 today announced the 51 environmental organizations nationwide that have pledged to ensure a more equitable environmental sector by signing on to the Green 2.0 Pay Equity Pledge. The pledge holds environmental organizations accountable to standards to ensure that women and people of color are receiving equitable compensation for their work.

Green 2.0 is launching the Environmental Experts of Color Database featuring over 150 people of color who are experts on a wide array of environmental topics to address lack of diversity in Congressional expert testimony on Thursday, September 14, 2023. In 2022, 62 percent of NGO witnesses at House hearings identified as White. Only 38 percent of NGO witnesses at House hearings were non-White with many hearings representing no speakers of color, even though climate change stressors and environmental justice disproportionately impact communities of color.

Green 2.0 – the movement builder working to increase racial and ethnic diversity in the green movement — today condemned the National Audubon Society’s failures to create a diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace. A recent report by E&E News highlights concerns, both internal and external, over Audubon’s culture and lack of action. Repeated staff complaints of a toxic work environment at Audubon — combined with repeated turnover of staff in its diversity office — are alarming and unacceptable. People of color remain underrepresented in positions of leadership at Audubon, despite some progress over the last few years.

Green 2.0 – the movement builder working to increase racial and ethnic diversity in the green movement – today announced some of the organizations failing to advance diversity and commit to participating in the annual NGO and Foundation Transparency Report Card. The environmental movement leader recently released its 2022 Report Card which found growing diversity in environmental organizations, but that the share of people of color in senior roles decreased slightly. The report had a record-breaking 68 environmental NGOs and 20 foundations participating, but more transparency and participation is required to build a winning climate movement.
